Coal company that emerged from downturn files for stock market debut

A coal company born out of bankruptcy is preparing to enter the New York Stock Exchange in a climate of potential short-term gains for a coal industry that’s expected to continue shrinking.

Contura Energy, which operates the former Alpha Natural Resources mines, Belle Ayr and Eagle Butte in northern Wyoming, announced recently that it had filed for a $100 million initial public offering of its common stock, with plans to trade under the symbol CTRA.
